Chapter 7
Rachel
I rolled over and landed on my bottom. It hurt so much that I had to cry. I was so worried that he would spank me again. Maybe if I was really good he would leave me alone. I was still working on calming myself down when he came in with his laptop.
He sat down on my bed and showed me what was on the screen. “Recognize these? She has copies. Now I want you to really choose what you want. No fussing,” he warned me.
I sniffled and turned so I was somewhat sitting up. I was leaning on my side, letting my arm take some of my body weight by pressing my hand into the mattress. “But no one really has a room like that. Only people on TV.”
“I thought your mom didn't have a TV?” he asked me.
“Ricky's parents did.”
“Well, this is what I think is right for you. Taking in a kid doesn't mean that you give them the bare minimum. I can afford this and I was clear that I wanted to do this.”
Okay, he was a great person that made me the bad guy. Anyone would be lucky to have him as their uncle. I looked at the pictures while he made comments about what he like and what he didn't like. I joined in, giving my own opinions. We even laughed a little as we talked about this and that.
He was writing her an e-mail while we spoke, telling her what we decided on. A mix of the pictures.
If everything worked out as planned, my room would be finished next Monday when I came home from school.
Uncle Brad left me alone so I could get dressed. My backside still hurt, a lot.
I peeked at it in the mirror. It was all red. I wanted to cry just looking at it. I was really sorry for making him so mad.
He was right to, I had done everything he accused me of. I just wasn't used to living with someone normal. I should have been more thankful about him taking me in, but instead I got someone in trouble and caused a commotion.
He had acted like he had forgiven me before on my bed but I was still worried. My plan was to be extra good for him.
I needed to work on my case. I still had some questions for my client. Uncle Brad had said that I should come downstairs when I was finished getting dressed. I went down with my work pad. I had a feeling that everything was okay now, but still it hurt to move.
However, I somehow wanted to be near him and hear him say that everything was alright even though he had said that already.
He smiled at me as I came down the stairs. “Is my little lawyer still busy.”
“Umm – yes. I have a few questions again. Do you have time?”
“Time,” his eyes lighted up when he said that. “I have all the time in the world for you.
